The Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Annual Meeting is a meeting of global leaders to devise and implement innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.  This year Ashton was a member of a panel discussion called “Democracy and Voice: Technology For Citizen Empowerment and Human Rights.”  The discussion focused on how digital information can impact social causes, government reforms, and civil society. Arianna Huffington moderated, and other panelists included Mohamed Ibrahim, Omid Memarian, Pierre Omidyar, and Maria Otero.  On the panel, Ashton discussed his work with the DNA Foundation and the Real Men Don’t Buy Girls campaign.  After the panel, Ashton, Demi, Jack Dorsey from Square, Pamela Passman from Microsoft, and  Peter Buffett of the NoVo Foundation held a press conference to announce their collaboration with other leaders on the DNA technology initiative, which aims to combat child sexual exploitation on the internet.   Demi and Ashton also announced the Real Men Don’t Buy Girls campaign, which aims to spread public awareness and acknowledgement of the issue of child sex slavery in the United States.
