Demi and Ashton presented an award at the 2010 Freedom Awards in Redondo Beach, California.  Free the Slaves, a nonprofit organization that works to end modern day slavery, created the Freedom Awards to celebrate today’s anti-slavery heroes and to catalyze additional innovation and resources to end slavery once and for all.  Demi and Ashton were honored to present The Frederick Douglass Freedom Award to this year’s recipient, Tina Frundt, an abolitionist who was also a survivor of sex slavery.  Tina devotes her life to reaching out to teens that are trapped in the commercial sex industry.  The Frederick Douglass Freedom Award is given to an individual who has survived a form of slavery and is using his or her life in freedom to help others. The award honors the tremendous resilience of the human spirit, and emphasizes that many survivors of modern-day slavery go on to help others to freedom. Tina Frundt was awarded $20,000 to continue and expand her work freeing child slaves. Other celebrities who presented awards include Camilla Belle, Forest Whitaker, and Vincent Kartheiser.  Jason Mraz and a number of international musicians performed.
